Rehab for Young Adults
Rehab for Young Adults in California
Teenage and young adult drug and alcohol abuse is an issue that many families face in the US today, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.
As continuing to attend school is often a concern for this age group, an outpatient rehab program is often the best option for their treatment. Alcohol and drug programs for young adults include help from expert addiction specialists who are specifically trained to help your child gain control over their addiction. Mental health treatment is also provided, offering an effective, dual-diagnosis approach to their care.
Drug rehab for young men and women also often includes fun group activities and adventure therapy to help them learn new, healthier habits and coping mechanisms that can stay with them long after they leave treatment. What to Expect in a Young Adult Rehab
When you’re looking at treatment programs and rehabs for young adults, the first thing to keep in mind is that there is no boilerplate strategy that works for all addictions. Someone struggling with mild marijuana use disorder has dramatically different treatment needs and goals than a heroin addict with co-occurring depression or anxiety disorder.
Finding the right addiction recovery program for your child is an important decision as their loved one. It can be a life-changing experience for them as they begin treatment with a group of like-minded peers and staff, often becoming a lifelong support system after the program.
Broadly, though, young adult rehabs in California will provide amenities, therapies, and activities designed to cater to teens and adults in their early twenties and a similar age group.
If you choose to engage in treatment for alcohol use disorder or substance use disorder here at Renaissance Recovery, we would typically recommend an intensive outpatient program (IOP).
At our young adult rehab center, you’ll benefit from structured therapy without the cost or restrictions of residential rehab. Research shows that IOPs can be as effective as inpatient rehab for most substance use disorders.

IOP for Young Adults
IOPs or intensive outpatient programs are effective for treating mild addictions.
Inpatient treatment is typically recommended for more severe addictions and for anyone requiring medically-supervised detox.
For teens with a supportive home environment, though, an IOP offers you access to similar services as you would find in inpatient rehab, but you’ll return home after your sessions at the treatment center.
Most IOPs last from 12 to 16 weeks, and here at Renaissance, you’ll attend counseling sessions and therapy sessions for a few hours on weekdays. Sessions usually run for three hours over three weekdays to suit your schedule at school.
IOPs offer you a greater level of care and time commitment than a regular outpatient program, but they are less intensive than the full-time equivalent, a PHP or partial hospitalization program.
At our young adult and treatment centers, you’ll have counseling sessions, in both individual and group settings. Alongside counseling, psychotherapies like CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) will help you identify your triggers for substance abuse while also teaching you superior and healthier coping strategies.
If required, you will also have access to FDA-approved medications to streamline withdrawal and recovery at our young adult rehab programs. Medication-assisted treatment here at Renaissance Recovery Center is always delivered in combination with other therapies.
Therapy for Young Adults
Therapy in teen rehab can include:
Yoga
Meditation
Music
Theater
Exercise
Art
By connecting with other young adults in recovery from drug abuse, you’ll have the opportunity to benefit from their experiences while also forming sober friendships to help them thrive in a supportive environment as well as post-treatment.
During treatment, young adults deal with specific stressors and challenges that you’ll learn to more efficiently deal with in rehab.
A good addiction treatment provider will also ensure you have the support you need to sharpen your social skills if addiction has impacted your emotional development.
Aftercare and Alumni Program
Aftercare takes on many forms, including:
- Individual counseling
- Group counseling
- Outpatient programs
- Sober living communities
- 12-step support groups like NA and AA
If you suffered from a severe addiction and needed inpatient treatment, stepping down to an outpatient program like an IOP or PHP can help you more seamlessly transition into daily living.
With the proper aftercare plan in place, you’ll minimize your chances of relapse while improving the outcome if you relapse and start using alcohol or drugs again.
With our young adult alumni program, you can stay in touch with your treatment team and those you formed close bonds with long after you finish your course of treatment and push on with sustained sobriety
