Anyone diagnosed with substance use disorder is liable to suffer withdrawal symptoms upon quitting, and in some cases home detox is inadvisable, as it can lead to death in some cases. If you have severe heroin use disorder or chronic alcoholism, for instance, medical detox removes much of the danger, as well as minimizes the chance of relapse. Emergency rehab can be a life-saving solution in these cases.

Many people suffering from withdrawal require same-day admission rehab centers, where they can get the help they need in time.

How to Get Into Rehab Immediately

If you’re wondering how to get into emergency inpatient rehab immediately, there is good news. Fortunately, many rehab centers, including our Orange County rehab, in the US offer emergency inpatient rehab for a range of situations where time is of the essence, particularly when unsupervised withdrawal could be dangerous or deadly.

If you or a loved one are in danger and need rehab immediately, please reach out to our team right now.

Getting into rehab immediately can be the difference between life and death, and is incredibly important in many situations of moderate to severe substance abuse.

What is Emergency Rehab and Immediate Rehab?

Now that you know how to get into emergency rehab, you may be wondering, “what is emergency rehab?” With emergency rehab (also known as same-day admission rehab), you can expect admittance for you or a loved one on the same day you initiate contact.

Most reputable rehab centers will make some provision for emergency admissions, although not all can offer this service, and the scope of the service will vary depending on the treatment center in question.

The very nature of emergencies means they typically emerge unexpectedly and without warning. If you or a loved one is addicted to alcohol or drugs, though, you should prepare for such an emergency, ensuring you have a suitable support framework in place.

The core purpose of emergency rehab is to help you detox from alcohol or drugs and then seamlessly transition into treatment.

Immeditate rehab is simply another way of phrasing emergency rehab, and offers the same rapid treatment options. Emergency alcohol rehab or emergency drug rehab are both available options for different addiction disorders.

You can expect the following during your initial evaluation upon admission to an emergency rehab center:

  • Background information: Your treatment team will want to know about the outcome of any previous detoxes or addiction treatment you have been through.
  • Substance abuse history: Expect to be questioned in depth about what substances you have been abusing, how often you used these substances, and in what quantities. You will also need to inform your treatment team when you last used substances.
  • Lab tests: You will undergo tests to check your BAC (blood alcohol concentration levels), as well as tests to screen for health problems and nutritional status.
  • Physical assessment: You will undergo a thorough physical exam during admission to emergency rehab centers.
  • Overall health status: You can expect questions from the treatment team concerning any allergies, seizures, or mental health disorders, past or present.
  • Risk: The treatment team will determine whether you are at any risk of suicide or violent behavior.

This evaluation stage above is the first of three stages in emergency rehab, followed by stabilization and then transitioning into treatment.

The stabilization stage in emergency rehab involves your treatment team helping you to negotiate withdrawal and detox. Medications and psychosocial interventions are often used to streamline detoxification. With round-the-clock medical care, you can expect prompt intervention in the event of any complications during withdrawal. This stage takes a week or so.

The third and final stage of emergency rehab encourages your engagement with ongoing treatment. You may continue in a residential rehab facility, or you might step down the continuum of care to a more intensive form of outpatient treatment like a PHP (partial hospitalization program) or an IOP (intensive outpatient program).

Luckily, most people do not require emergency rehab. In some cases, though, emergency help for addicts and emergency help for alcoholics can mean the difference between life and death. What are these situations, then?

Emergency Help for Alcoholics and Addiction

In some situations, rapid admission to a detox program could help mitigate potentially dangerous consequences, while also alleviating some of the discomforts of withdrawal.

If there are any significant symptoms of a life-threatening emergency, you should contact the authorities immediately, calling for immediate medical assistance.

The following scenarios often benefit from admission into emergency rehab:

  • Severe alcohol withdrawal: Anyone with severe alcohol withdrawal is likely to suffer from serious withdrawal symptoms, possibly even delirium tremens. This is the most severe form of alcohol withdrawal and can be deadly. If you have been drinking heavily and/or long-term, it is inadvisable to stop drinking suddenly and without a medical liaison. Instead, consider emergency alcohol rehab over cold turkey if time is of the essence.
  • Severe opioid withdrawal: Same-day admission to a detox and drug addiction treatment program is often advisable for those at risk of opioid withdrawal symptoms. Any abstinence from opioids decreases tolerance to the drug, meaning an overdose during a potential relapse is more likely to have serious adverse consequences. Opioid overdose can be fatal, so consider detoxing in a medically supervised setting like emergency rehab rather than trying to go it alone.
  • Sedative-hypnotic withdrawal: Withdrawal from benzodiazepines or barbiturates can be life-threatening, meaning an emergency rehab is a preferable option to home detox in most instances.
  • Overdose: Drug overdose and alcohol poisoning are both medical emergencies requiring immediate admission rehab.

How can you go about finding emergency rehab near me or same day admission rehab near me , then?

Finding a Same-Day Rehab

Research shows that for most substance use disorders, intensive outpatient treatment works just as well as inpatient rehab (or same day rehab).

With immediate emergency rehab, though, inpatient treatment is typically most effective. Most rehabs offering inpatient treatment will also allow for same-day admission in an emergency.

Finding a same-day rehab can be as simple as doing a quick google search and calling the rehab. However, you can also ask for advice from friends, family, and your healthcare provider, too. You may also know someone who is in addiction recovery who knows of a good same day admission rehab.
